MEC Lehari encourages community to report crime cases on time

GANYESA, North West Community Safety and Transport Management, MEC Sello Lehari pleads with communities to work with law enforcement authorities and to report criminal cases on time to ease investigations.

Speaking during the Joint Law Enforcement Operation in Ganyesa, Lehari said communities have tendencies of not reporting cases on time and start complaining that police are not working.

"People must stop protecting criminals, we must report crime on time and work together with the police. We need to work in an integrated approach to fight crime," said MEC Lehari.

He said today's operation was set to increase police and traffic visibility.
"We must not just be seeing in big cities but also in rural areas because crime is all over and there's lawlessness of people driving without driving licences and unroadworthy vehicles," he said.

Lehari further visited the Ganyesa police station to monitor compliance on COVID-19 regulations.

Giving his satisfaction on the station's compliance, he said police are on the Frontline and they have to comply to safe people's lives.

The Department MEC further led the process of fumigating the taxi rank, traffic and police stations.

"We fumigate these respective offices and the local taxi rank to create a safer environment for our people, communities and workers."

Representing the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Regional Taxi association Chairperson, Mr Ebusang Tladi who committed that they will start to monitor taxi driver's compliance very closely. Taxi Provincial Regulatory Entity, PRE Deputy Chairperson, Mme Motshwari had an opportunity to address the industry whereas Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Mere and Council Speaker also attended.
